This pharmacology series tailored to NP faculty was created by. Dr. Margaret Fitzgerald to help NP faculty prepare NP students for the most relevant pain points they will face in clinical practice. Dr. Fitzgerald shares effective ways to teach foundational prescribing strategies, and equips participants with resources that can be used in both clinical and educational settings. This collection of learning sessions covers prescribing best practices for a spectrum of chronic and acute conditions, including bacterial infection, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, and more.

Dr. Jason Gleason
DNP, NP-C, USAF Lieutenant Colonel (Ret)
Dr. Jason Gleason DNP, NP-C, USAF LIEUTENANT COLONEL (RET), better known as Dr. J holds a doctoral degree from Montana State University and has been working as a board-certified nurse practitioner since 2001. Dr. Gleason has an expansive professional portfolio which includes 20 years of service in the USAF/Air National Guard before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2015. He has demonstrated expertise in the fields of family practice, emergency medicine, primary care, diabetes and stroke care and he is also a lauded national speaker and consultant.
He currently provides primary care services for our National Heroes at the Veterans Health Administration and serves as a faculty member at Fitzgerald Health Education Associates which is the premiere provider of NP board review and NP continuing education in the country. Dr. Gleason serves on multiple local, state and national councils and boards including the Benefis Health System Stroke Council, the Montana State Stroke Workgroup, the National VA Stroke Clinical Practice Guidelines Workgroup, the National VA APRN Council and the Corporate Advisory Board for Carelinx by Sharecare an innovative home care services company launched by WebMD founder Jeff Arnold, Oprah, Remark Media, Sony Pictures Television and Discovery Communications. Gleason has been recognized from the floor of the United States Senate for his work with stroke and Veterans. Out of all the roles he has had in his lifetime the most profound is being a dad to his three amazing sons.

Dr. Margaret Fitzgerald
DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, FAANP, CSP, FAAN, DCC, FNAP
Dr. Margaret Fitzgerald DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, FAANP, CSP, FAAN, DCC, FNAP is the founder, president, and principal lecturer with Fitzgerald Health Education Associates, (FHEA), an international provider of nurse practitioner certification preparation and continuing education for healthcare providers.
An internationally recognized presenter, Dr. Fitzgerald has provided thousands of programs for numerous professional organizations, universities, and national and state healthcare associations on a wide variety of topics including clinical pharmacology, clinical assessment, laboratory diagnosis, healthcare, and nurse practitioner practice. For more than 25 years, she has provided graduate-level pharmacology courses for NP students at a number of universities. In addition, she practices as a family nurse practitioner at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Lawrence, MA.
Dr. Fitzgerald also holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, where she received the Alumni Association Award for Clinical Excellence and is also an Adjunct Associate Professor. Dr. Fitzgerald is a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for Neighborhood Health Plan in Boston, MA.
Dr. Fitzgerald is the recipient of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties’ Lifetime Achievement Award, given in recognition of vision and accomplishments in successfully developing and promoting the nurse practitioner role, the American College of Nurse Practitioner’s Sharp Cutting Edge Award, the Outstanding Nurse Award for Clinical Practice by the Merrimack Valley Area Health Education Council, and one of the 50 Leaders in 50 Years by the Solomont School of Nursing, UMass Lowell. In addition, Dr. Fitzgerald received the Loretta C. Ford Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Nurse Practitioner Symposium for demonstrating longevity, integrity, professional achievement, and advocacy in advanced practice nursing. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a charter fellow in the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Dr. Fitzgerald is a Professional Member of the National Speakers Association and is the first nurse practitioner to earn the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation in recognition of excellence and integrity as a speaker. She is also certified by the American Board of Comprehensive Care as a Diplomate of Comprehensive Care (DCC), a designation available to DNP graduates who are licensed advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) and nationally certified in an APRN specialty. Dr. Fitzgerald is an editorial board member of The Nurse Practitioner, American Nurse Today, Prescriber’s Letter, and Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice.
She is widely published, with more than 200 articles, book chapters, monographs, and audio and video programs to her credit. Her book, Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation (now in the 5th edition), received the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award for Advanced Practice Nursing and has been published in English and Korean. She has provided consultation to nursing organizations in the United States, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom. Dr. Fitzgerald is an active member of numerous national and local professional organizations.

Stefanie Remson
MSN, APRN, FNP-BC
Ms. Stefanie Remson is a family-certified nurse practitioner who graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program.
She has worked in critical care/pulmonary, primary care, urgent care, and infectious disease. She is passionate about her role in HIV management.
Ms. Remson is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR).
She also plays a very active role in the rheumatology community, where she is CEO of RheumatoidArthritisCoach.com, an online educational organization providing resources to people living with rheumatoid arthritis.

Anthony M. Angelow, PhD, ACNPC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, CEN, FAEN, FAANP, is a Fitzgerald Faculty member. He presents the Fitzgerald Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam Review and Advanced Practice Update for adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioners. Dr. Angelow earned his PhD in Nursing Education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO, and his MSN as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. His dissertation research focused on nurse practitioner transition to practice.
Dr. Angelow is certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). He maintains an active clinical practice in the Division of Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at Cooper University Health Care, a Level One Trauma Center, in Camden, NJ. Dr. Angelow is an Associate Clinical Professor and Chair of Advanced Practice Nursing (Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs) at Drexel University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Angelow is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and the Emergency Nurses Association. Recognizing his outstanding and long-lasting contributions to the profession, he earned Fellowship in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Academy of Emergency Nursing.
Dr. Angelow is a nationally and internationally recognized content expert and speaker. He presents numerous acute care, critical care, emergency, educational and professional topics at local, regional, national, and international conference venues. He serves as a content expert and consultant for multiple clinically based projects and has published books on adult-gerontology acute care certification preparation and acute care clinical procedures. He also serves as a content reviewer for numerous professional journals, including the Journal of Emergency Nursing, the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Journal for Nurse Practitioners.

Sally K. Miller
PhD, AGACNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, FAANP
Sally K. Miller, PhD, AGACNP, AGPCNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, FAANP, is a Fitzgerald Faculty member. She presents the Fitzgerald Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam Review & Advanced Practice Update for family, adult-gerontology primary care, adult-gerontology acute care, and psychiatric-mental health. She also teaches pathophysiology and pharmacology courses.
Dr. Miller is certified as an adult-gerontology acute care, adult-gerontology primary care, family, and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She practices in rural health with NextGen Family Care Clinic and iCarePsychiatry in Las Vegas, NV. Dr. Miller is a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and a clinical professor at the Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions, Philadelphia, PA. Additionally, Dr. Miller is the APRN consultant/investigator to the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Dr. Miller has presented a wide variety of pharmacology and clinical topics at local and national conferences, including the National Conference of Nurse Practitioners, AANP, and the University of Colorado Annual Nurse Practitioner Symposium. In addition, Dr. Miller conducts workshops in collaboration with other Fitzgerald faculty on suturing for primary and urgent care. She created the following Fitzgerald Health programs (available at www.fhea.com): Assessment and Intervention in Common GI Disorders: PUD, Gastritis, GERD, and IBS; Assessment and Management of Low Back Pain; Prescribing for the Relief of Symptoms; Evaluation of Dizziness, Syncope and Vertigo; Primary Care Management of Acute and Chronic Pain Syndromes; The Differential Diagnosis of Chest Pain: Who Needs the ECG?; and Controlled Substances: A Focus on Safe and Effective Prescribing. Dr. Miller is a member of numerous professional organizations, including AANP, the American Nurses Association, the Academy of Correctional Health Professionals, and the Nevada Nurses Association. She has been published in several nurse practitioner journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Biological Research for Nursing, Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy, Journal of Primary Health Care, Journal of Correctional Health Care, and Advance for Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Miller has also served as a content reviewer for many of these publications.

Teresa “Tess” Judge-Ellis
DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, FAANP
Teresa Judge-Ellis, DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, FAANP has been in nursing over 30 years and has been a nurse practitioner for over 20 years. She is dually board certified in family practice and psychiatry-mental health.
She is a nurse educator with a strong practice background in integrated care combining primary care and psychiatry in both rural settings and with people with serious mental illness and substance use disorders in community-based locations with individuals experiencing chronic homelessness or housing transitions. Dr. Judge-Ellis enjoys working with others and identifying and bridging gaps that exist in the current system of fragmented care for people with serious mental illness, substance use disorder, medical illness, and insecure housing. She is a strong voice for health care reform in this population to meet the quadruple aim: lower cost, excellent outcomes, high patient satisfaction, and fulfillment in the work-life of health care providers. Dr. Judge-Ellis has been on the faculty at the College of Nursing since 1999. From 1999-2011 she served as the Family Nurse Practitioner program coordinator. She began her nursing career as an Army nurse and practiced for over 13 years as an integrated primary care/psychiatry NP. Her current practices are through the College of Nursing Faculty Practice in partnership with local community non-profits on site at Cross Park Place and the 501 project, initiatives of Shelter House, and with Chatham Oaks, a residential care facility for people with serious mental illness in transition after exacerbation of their illness.
In 2005, Dr. Judge-Ellis was awarded the Friends of Iowa Civil Rights, Inc. Individual Award and the Catalyst Award from the University of Iowa Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity in recognition for her leadership efforts towards developing cultural competence and the elimination of health disparity. In 2013, Dr. Judge-Ellis was inducted as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She was awarded the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Excellence in Leadership-Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in 2018, the American Association of Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence in 2019 and the Benter Award for Organizational Leadership from the Iowa Chapter American Psychiatric Nurses Association in 2021.
Dr. Judge-Ellis received a master’s degree in nursing from Pacific Lutheran University (Family Nurse Practitioner) in 1996 and completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (with a post-grad Psych-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner emphasis) from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in May 2008. In 2022 she finished a two-year fellowship as a VA Quality Scholar with a focus on homeless veterans.
Dr. Judge-Ellis has served as President-elect, President and Past President for the Iowa Nurse Practitioner Society (INPS). She was a leader in the formation of a state NP policy and legislative committee that coordinates legislative efforts and employs a lobbyist on behalf of Iowa NPs. Dr. Judge-Ellis served as a board member for the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and has attended national leadership conferences through both the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American College of Nurse Practitioners and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. Dr. Judge-Ellis is an associate lecturer for Fitzgerald Health Education Associates, Inc. She is also co-host of Friends of Flo, a podcast that serves as a “touchstone for nurses across the practice continuum to share stories, exchange ideas, learn, and support one another.”
Tess lives in Iowa City with her husband, son and two cats. She enjoys spending time with family and friends doing whatever happens to be on the agenda. She is a Lay Carmelite and a member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Lay Carmelite Community in Iowa City.

Vanessa Pomarico
EdD, FNP-BC, FAANP
Vanessa Pomarico, EdD, FNP-BC, FAANP is a Fitzgerald Faculty member. Dr. Pomarico is certified as a family nurse practitioner and earned a doctorate in Nursing Education from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT She practices at Northeast Medical Group (NEMG), specializing in Internal Medicine with a special interest in women’s health and transgender healthcare. An author, lecturer, educator, and volunteer, Dr. Pomarico is the transgender healthcare trainer for NEMG system-wide.
Dr. Pomarico is the former Director and Lead faculty of the FNP track in the Department of Nursing at Southern Connecticut State University. She is courtesy faculty and a guest lecturer for numerous nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and medical schools in Connecticut. Dr. Pomarico is the recipient of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Nurse Practitioner Excellence award and was inducted as a Fellow in AANP. She is a recipient of the Nightingale Excellence in nursing award. Dr. Pomarico is the co-author of two nursing pathophysiology textbooks and a contributing author in “Focus on Adult Health Nursing”. She served on the advisory board for The Jim Collins Foundation, a non-profit organization community-based initiative promoting the self-determination and empowerment of all transgender people. Dr. Pomarico has served as the Co-Chair of Health Policy and is a Past President of the Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Society (CTAPRNS). Dr. Pomarico presents locally and nationally. Louise McDevitt

Louise McDevitt, MS, ACNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, FAANP is member of the Fitzgerald faculty. Fitzgerald Health Education Associates is an international provider of nurse practitioner certification preparation and continuing education for healthcare providers.
As a certified adult, family and acute care nurse practitioner, Ms. McDevitt practices at Grace Cottage Family Practice at Grace Cottage Hospital, Townshend, VT. She is a member of the hospital’s Ethics Committee and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as well as a member of The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. She is the assistant clinical instructor at the University of Vermont Medical School and Graduate School of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner Program.
Ms. McDevitt has presented workshops in collaboration with other Fitzgerald associates on the topics of Common Dermatologic Procedures; Common Office Procedures; Expert Exam of the Knee; Expert Exam of the Shoulder; Expert Exam of the Ear, Nose and Throat; Joint Injection; Ophthalmology; and Suturing and Wound Management, offered at Fitzgerald Health Education Associates, Inc. Clinical Skills Workshop Seminars held several times per year around the country. She has presented at numerous national nurse practitioner conferences, including the National Conference of Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Care Clinicians (NCNP/ACC) annually since 2003.

Wendy L. Wright

Wendy L. Wright, DNP, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, FNAP, is member of the Fitzgerald faculty. Ms. Wright is certified as both a family and adult nurse practitioner and is the owner of two nurse practitioner operated clinics within New Hampshire called Wright and Associates Family Healthcare at Amherst and at Concord. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and is the recipient of both the Excellence in Research and Excellence in Clinical Practice awards, from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. She was chosen by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners to receive the New Hampshire Excellence in Practice award and by her peers as the New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner of the Year. She is the nurse practitioner representative to the State of NH Immunization Advisory Board. Ms. Wright is the founder of the NH Chamber of Entrepreneurial Nurse Practitioners, an organization designed to assist nurse practitioners with independent practice issues. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a member of the New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner Association and Sigma Theta Tau.
Ms. Wright is adjunct graduate faculty at the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing at the University of Wyoming and Simmons College Graduate Nursing Program where she teaches in the doctor of nursing practice program. She has served as a defense expert witness for medical malpractice cases involving nurse practitioners.
Wendy Wright’s publications include articles and monographs on the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and migraine. She is also an editor for Practice Management, a new e-journal created for NPs interested in independent practice and practice management. She has also developed and appeared in a number of Fitzgerald Health Education Associates, produced video programs including Expert Exam: Physical Examination of the Adult, Expert Exam: The Primary Care Neurologic Exam, and Expert Exam: Conducting a Pre-sports Physical Examination, which are available at www.fhea.com.

Josh Hamilton
DNP, RN-BC, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, CTMH, CNE, FAANP
Dr. Josh Hamilton, DNP, RN-BC, FNP-C,PMHNP-BC, CTMH, CNE, FAANP lives and works from Las Vegas, NV, where he has been in private clinical practice for more than 15 years. With more than two decades of nursing experience, he also holds professorial appointments, leadership positions and consults extensively in the higher education space.
Previously, he was Associate Medical Director for the largest managed care behavioral health network in the Desert Southwest. He served on the Nevada Board of Nursing’s Advanced Practice and Educational Advisory Committees and spearheaded the Donate Life campaign at the state level.
His professional interests include neurobiology, pharmacology and epigenetics. He is an internationally-recognized speaker on these (and related) topics at conferences and professional meetings. He works with a variety of organizations to develop, review and present live and enduring continuing education activities. Engagements include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Myriad Neuroscience, MedIQ, Nurse Practitioner Continuing Education Associates (NPACE), and Vindico Medical Education. He serves on the psychiatric medication working group at the Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science & Innovation, a FDA-sponsored project at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Hamilton earned his doctorate in nursing from Rush University in Chicago. At the University of Wyoming he earned a baccalaureate degree in Natural Science and Mathematics as well as a master’s degree in Nursing. He also has an undergraduate degree in Biology. He is nationally certified as a psychiatric-mental health nurse; family nurse practitioner; family psychiatric nurse practitioner, telemental healthcare provider, and nurse educator. He was recognized as a doctoral scholar by the National League for Nursing, and he is a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. He was recognized for establishing a unique clinic structure that improves access to cost-effective, convenient, quality mental healthcare. His academic connections fostered synergies and renewed attention to nursing education that focuses on care for the vulnerable mentally ill population in Nevada and across the nation. Dr. Hamilton is also a master clinical psychopharmacologist (through the Neuroscience Education Institute), and he was the 2015 Distinguished Alumnus at his alma mater, the University of Wyoming. He is the Nevada state representative for AANP.
A classically trained pianist, Dr. Hamilton enjoys live music, international travel and automobiles. He is an active supporter of local animal rescue and rehoming efforts, as well as charities that provide critical transportation for patients in need of distant life-saving specialty healthcare. Dr. Hamilton grew up in Casper, Wyoming, with his sights set on medical school. He originally pursued a nursing degree thinking the experience would make him a better physician. Along the way, he discovered an affinity and passion for the humanistic, health-promoting philosophy of nursing. He has since devoted his career to clinical practice, furthering the cause of the profession and educating future leaders in the healthcare field.
